Confidentiality
Probably the most important thing that students expect of the Counseling Center in addition to being treated with respect and concern is that what they say will be held in confidence. We know that confidentiality is an essential part of what helps counseling work and so we strongly protect students' confidentiality. The Consent for Counseling Services form that students sign before they even see a psychologist spells out what services the counseling center provides and the importance of confidentiality. Because confidentiality is so important we encourage students who have questions about it to talk to the person they will work with at the beginning of their first visit so they can know if the legal limits of confidentiality will effect them. You'll be given a sheet before you see a therapist that explains the confidentiality of our services. We respect and protect the need for confidentiality by students who seek help from us. |
